We are currently looking for an Operational Risk Program Consultant Sr. to serve as the Risk Management Specialist for the Operational Risk Management (ORM) program. Assist the Operating Companies (OpCo) and Business Units (BU) on their Operational Risk Management implementations. This position requires a strong collaboration with Enterprise Risk Oversight (ERO), OpCo/BU partners and external consultants.
Plan, lead and facilitate activities associated with the Operational Risk process in collaboration with OpCo and BU Risk Directors, Risk Managers, Risk Champions, Risk Committees and subject matter experts (SME). This position requires a strong understanding of the operational risk program framework and methodologies and will be responsible for leading applicable continuous process improvement activities to align to AEP’s Operational Risk Management maturity plan.
Provide guidance and support for the use of ARCS to ensure utilization of a common repository for all risks identified.
Ensure development and adherence to standard work to ensure consistency across the enterprise. Update standard work documentation as needed, based on continuous improvement opportunities and lessons learned.
Provide expertise and guidance in implementing AEP’s operational risk framework for all OpCos/BUs.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various individuals and diverse groups.
Interact with OpCo/BUs to obtain information regarding the operational risks they encounter during day-to-day operations.
Facilitate enterprise wide operational risk activities; support OpCo/BU Risk Directors/Managers in the management of their respective areas’ operational risks.
Assist OpCo/BUs in identifying and assessing operational risks as they become apparent and provide requested support to OpCo/BUs in developing proposed strategies to mitigate such risks.
Ability to understand and effectively communicate technical issues.
Lead, facilitate and coordinate work activities of others within various work groups and departments.
Identify similar/common risks and facilitate/participate in calibration sessions to ensure consistency of risk framework utilization, developing further guidance when appropriate.
Apply the methodologies adapted by Operational Risk to monitor and report the level of risk in the OpCo/BU for management.
Participate in the development and implementation of a framework to ensure adequacy and adherence to key controls.
Participate in the development of a common framework and implementation of a software tool to align the operational risk management framework with the investment planning process.
Possesses conflict resolution skills.
Understand evolving industry practices related to risk management processes and technologies and collaborate with Entreprise Risk Oversight (ERO) on this aspect .
Support the alignment of the Asset Management practices to Operational Risk methodologies.
Minimum Requirements: Education: Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Engineering, Business Administration or other applicable business operations field.
Experience: Minimum of 8 years’ experience in Operational Risk Management, Process Improvement and/or Resiliency functions. Knowledge and experience with Generation, Transmission and/or Distribution operations preferred.
Licenses/Certifications: Risk management certification a plus.
Occasional travel required - 15-25%.
Strong understanding of risk management frameworks, processes and methodologies (preferably ISO 31000) to ensure AEP’s implementation of Operational Risks processes are in line with industry standards.
Broad understanding of Asset Management, Asset Registries and Asset Lifecycle Analysis (preferably ISO 55000) that will be used to align with the Risk management process
Strong communication skills to interface with leadership at all levels within the organization, outside vendors, industry organizations . Familiarity with governmental regulations and industry standards in regards to FERC, State Public Utilities Commissions, OSHA, and NERC requirements, is a plus.
Requires strong analytical skills.
Requires proficiency in the use of office software, particularly Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
