As the Risk Management Coordinator you will be a crucial member of our organization to ensure administration of all risk-management initiatives.
Primary responsibilities include managing claims and incident reporting and being first point of contact with insurance carriers. Additionally this position will work closely with all levels of management to ensure thorough understanding of The Habitat Company’s policies and procedures to mitigate risk in all facets of our business.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Handling Incidents & Claims
Oversee and manage incident reporting process (typically for injuries, losses or property damage)
Works closely with properties, regional managers, insurance broker and insurance companies
Assess if incident is covered by insurance and, if so, whether to tender to applicable insurance company
Works closely with properties, regional managers, insurance broker, insurance companies, attorneys, Legal Dept & HR Dept
Assess if claim is covered by insurance and, if so, whether to tender to applicable insurance company
Assists in handling of lawsuits and act as liaison with insurance broker, appropriate attorneys and/or insurance companies
Understanding Habitat’s Evolving Insurance Program
Oversee and manage Habitat’s annual renewal process for master insurance program
Works closely with insurance broker and Senior Management to ensure that Habitat has cost effective coverage with appropriate coverage/retention levels
Periodically review Habitat’s insurance program to ensure industry standards and best practices are in place
Understand Habitat’s insurance program and policies
Works closely with insurance broker
Assists Senior Management in understanding nuances of policies and provide insurance advice in negotiation of property management agreements and other contracts
Be a resource to Senior Management about industry trends in insurance products and make recommendations for options Habitat should be considering (i.e. renter’s insurance programs)
Obtain new insurance policies / COIs from insurance broker for newly-acquired / newly-managed properties, loan refinances and new business lines
Works closely with insurance broker, Acquisitions Dept and Senior Management
Participate in bi-monthly meetings with General Counsel and monthly meetings with other members of Senior Management
Excellent organizational skills
