Oversee the City’s first party claims for property losses and recovery of losses through subrogation and restitution. Provide support in the administration of third party liability claims against the City; track claims and loss data. Assist in the review of insurance and indemnity provisions in contracts, certificates of insurance, and other insurance related procurement activities. Administer the City’s Vehicle Use Program.
Review claim situations to identify and administer subrogation claims. Process damage claims with insurance carriers on behalf of the City. Prepare and file appropriate liens, submit claims, mediate, and work with departments to negotiate settlements.
Assist in third party claims administration for claims filed against the City, including those for property and bodily injury, general liability, automobile accidents, law enforcement, professional liability, and employment cases. Assist in the investigating losses; gather information, interview parties, and review reports. Track claims and coordinate with the City Attorney’s Office, relevant City staff, the liability administrator, expert witnesses, adjusters, and investigators. Process settlement payments.

Assist in annual insurance renewals for the City’s Property and Liability Insurance Program. Work closely with the City’s insurance broker and City staff in gathering underwriting data and completion of insurance applications. Provide annual loss data to actuary for actuarial review.
Assist procurement services in the review of insurance and indemnity provisions in contracts, and in the review of certificates of insurance received from vendors to determine sufficiency. Assist special event holders in securing insurance coverage through the City’s Tenant Users Liability Insurance Protection (TULIP) policy. Request certificates of insurance from the City’s broker when needed.
Monitor division budget. Create requisitions, request purchase orders, and pay department invoices. Manage department contracts.
Administer the City’s Vehicle Use Program. Monitor driving records, run driving abstracts, and maintain records.
Track claims and loss data in risk management information systems (RMIS) and claims software. Work in conjunction with safety and workers’ compensation in data analytics.
Three (3) years of related experience in administering first and third party claims, subrogation, and insurance procurement.
Equivalent to an Associate's Degree with major coursework in risk management, insurance, finance or paralegal studies.
