The Analyst, Risk Management reports to the Associate Director, Risk Management. This position provides support to the Associate Director and other members of the Insurance Risk Management Team (the Team) in the administration of BD insurance programs, data management and analysis. In addition, this position will support the Team’s work in the area of BD’s Business Continuity Management and Crisis Management, which are currently under development. Duties may be reassigned from time to time to rebalance workload due to shifting priorities or special projects.
Associate will be specifically responsible for managing:
Business Travel Accident Insurance - BD’s BTA program are not currently coordinated around the globe. There is a significant opportunity to improve the coverage and generate cost savings for the company by introducing a fully coordinated approach. At the same time the program can be properly integrated with the company’s travel safety program (provided by iJet) to enhance our crisis management capability.

Business Continuity Management and Crisis Management
BD’s Corporate Risk Management function supporting the development of a Business Continuity Management policy for the company. The position will be involved in supporting the team in the development of the policy and its roll out/coordination once established.
Contract review is a source of significant work effort for the team. With guidance from other team members the associate will provide support to domestic and international internal customers in reviewing insurance requirements, limitations of liability and indemnity provisions.
The work of the department is varied and some of it is complex. Job Aids are an essential tool to optimize repeatable processes and reduce avoidable mistakes by ensuring all required steps are completed. The department has expanded without developing these tools. The associate will be responsible for driving the development of a comprehensive set of job aids. This is an opportunity to create significant value for the Team and learn about all of the activities of the team.
Risk Management Information
The associate will be fully proficient in the operation of all claims management systems and be able to generate and continuously improve claims and other analytical reports required by the businesses, risk management function personnel, and others.
Budget and Accruals
The associate will support the insurance budget, forecasts and the insurance balance sheet accruals including managing the activities of the actuary.
The associate is responsible for supervising Insurance Broker activities as required in the scope of the activities.
Other Day to Day Responsibilities
Create and distribute various reports, spreadsheets and graphics for meetings/presentations
Handle routine inquiries relative to risk and insurance programs and practices
Manage notice to insurers of claims matters as directed
Processing of invoices
Support information requests from BD’s independent auditors
Assimilate new acquisitions into risk and insurance programs as directed
B.A./B.S. degree required, in Business, Finance, or Risk Management preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience working either in a large company risk management department, brokerage house or large insurer. The ideal candidate must have demonstrated analytical thinking and adaptability skills to be successful in this role. Some travel may be required, possibly up to 10%.
Familiarity with managing large company (Fortune 500) insurance programs.
Familiarity with Business Travel Accident and Business Continuity Management a plus
Familiarity with the actuarial process and modeling techniques
Knowledge and Skills
An understanding of fundamentals of insurance and risk issues including contractual risks such as indemnities and limitations of liability
Strong proficiency MS Excel
Proficiency with Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint
Proficiency with QlickView preferred
Analytical skills for creating insightful and actionable reporting and analysis
