Position Summary The Chief Risk Officer position will be within a banking non-depository trust company subsidiary of IHS Markit (the "Trust Company").
The Chief Risk Officer (CRO) will create, implement, improve, and administer the risk management programs for the Trust Company. The position will oversee Trust Company risk management activities across the Trust Company, including Compliance, Enterprise, Operational, and Reputation Risk. The position will develop assessments to measure and then mitigate the risk components of the above areas for the Trust Company, and work with the global IHS Markit Enterprise Risk Management and Compliance functions to ensure alignment and visibility across the enterprise. The Chief Risk Officer will be an experienced senior executive reporting to the CEO of the Trust Company with direct access to the Trust Company board.
Description of Responsibilities
Responsible for identifying and mitigating risk, assessing risk tolerances, and monitoring risk performance.
Provides leadership to personnel through effective objective setting, training, delegation, and communication.
Actively and effectively manages Audit, Compliance, and Risk staff for performance, development and retention.
Identifies material individual, aggregate and emerging risks.
Assesses these risks and measures the Trust Company's exposure to them.
Supports the Trust Company board in its implementation, review and approval of the enterprise-wide risk governance framework which includes the bank's risk culture, risk appetite, RAS and risk limits.
Actively monitors the risk-taking activities and risk exposures to ensure they are in line with the board-approved risk appetite, risk limits and corresponding capital or liquidity needs (i.e. capital planning).
Establishes early warning or trigger system for breaches of the bank's risk appetite or limits.
Influences and, when necessary, challenges material risk decisions
Reports to senior management and the board or risk committee, as appropriate, on all these items, including but not limited to proposing appropriate risk-mitigating actions.
At least 5 years experience in a management-level Risk function at a bank or trust company and at least 10 years experience in a Risk or Risk-related function, e.g., Auditing, Compliance, or Operations, at a regulated financial services company.
Broad expertise with sources of risk for the Trust Company, especially operational, cyber, and compliance risk.
Expert knowledge of risk techniques and practices, including regulatory guidance relating to enterprise and operational risk, e.g., OCC and FRB, and global risk frameworks (Basel, CPMI-IOSCO, etc.).
Exceptional organization, analysis, decision making and problem resolution skills.
Demonstrated experience interacting with bank regulators during examinations process.
Bachelor's degree or higher with a concentration in Accounting, Business, Economics, or Finance. JD, MBA, or graduate degree a plus.
Excellent management and project management skills.
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
Interest in working with new technologies, including distributed ledger technology, and in an entrepreneurial environment, developing and launching a new way to provide payments, trust, and custodial services.
