Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources, administers the Risk Management and Loss Prevention programs designed to protect and minimize losses to the City's operations and assets. Includes the development, maintenance and management of a cost effective risk management program, administration of the workers' compensation program, insurance procurement, safety, risk analysis and loss control.
Examples of Essential Job Functions: Oversees insurance plan design for life, liability, casualty and property insurance including risk identification, coverage analysis, evaluation of bid specifications, procurement and negation of insurance, and loss prevention. Administers and makes recommendations pertaining to all elements of the City's various property and casualty insurance policies and coverages such as records, auditing, premiums, policy expiration date, claims, cancellation, etc. Acts as liaison to the workers' compensation and return to work programs to make necessary accommodations for employees' transitional duty assignments. Responds to citizens' questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner.
Coordinates a comprehensive City-wide safety and loss control program to minimize the risks of injury to employees and the public, and damage to the property of the City. Monitors all efforts of the City's safety programs and functions as Safety Officer. Reviews accident investigations prepared by departments and analyzes accidents and reports of injury. Negotiates settlement of loss claims with insurance carriers and assists City Attorney in providing information for litigation of insured risk. Audits insurance contracts to determine changes in insurance requirements and coverages; makes periodic inspections and recommendations for OSHA and Iowa OSHA compliance; may review leases and contracts for risk exposure.
