he Texas Association of Counties (TAC) is seeking a qualified person for a Risk Management Consultant I – Southeast Region position.
This job needs someone who loves building strong relationships with clients and isn't afraid to try new marketing ideas. You'll be the person who figures out what each county needs and helps them find the best risk management solutions. By connecting with county leaders, you'll keep current partnerships strong and bring in new members. You'll explain complicated risk ideas in a way that's easy to understand, and you'll be a trusted advisor in the region.
Position Overview
Provide accurate and timely risk management consulting services to members and prospective members of the Texas Association of Counties Risk Management Pool (TAC RMP) related to all lines of coverage. Assist TAC RMP members with all things risk management, including coverage options, service opportunities, and risk control efforts. Build and maintain relationships with TAC RMP members by understanding member needs and the local competitive landscape. Serve as RMC team lead and support Senior RMS as directed on RMP projects.
Position requires extensive travel, up to 80% overnight in the state of Texas. Residence is Texas is required, and residence in assigned territory is preferred.
This position will be assigned to service members in the South Region of the state. The ideal candidate would live in the region, but consideration will be given all qualified candidates. Relocation assistance or reassignment to another region is not available currently.
Essential Job Functions
Build and maintain strong relationships with members by developing a thorough understanding of each member’s risk management needs and a strong understanding of county government and the political arena.
Conduct in-person appointments with members and communicate renewals, quotes, explanation of coverage details, promote TAC RMP services and when needed, deliver requests for proposals, create engaging presentations for training, and appear in commissioners’ court to represent TAC RMP.
Review member losses, identify potential exposures, ensure members have proper coverage, create and present engaging presentations to RMP members and other audience groups.
Act as the liaison between the member, underwriting, risk control and claims stakeholder groups as appropriate and lead account review meetings.
Travel up to 80 percent of each workweek by car to work directly with members, with multi-night overnight stays weekly, including responsibility for planning and cost control.
Attend and professionally represent TAC at TAC-sponsored and TAC-affiliate organization conferences for county officials and employees and working the TAC booth at vendor halls as assigned.

Experience / Education Requirements
High school graduate or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Marketing, or other Business degree preferred.
Minimum five years with direct experience in one of the following: commercial insurance sales/marketing, commercial underwriting, risk management or related consulting field is required.
Accredited Advisor in Insurance (AAI), or Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), or Certified Risk Manager (CRM), or Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation is preferred.
Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
This is member facing role and as a requirement for this position you agree to sign the TAC Photo/Video Release Form allowing the use of your picture, likeness, image, and/or voice recording videos, and other posts to TAC social media accounts, webpages, promotional, and educational materials.
Ability to self-start, work autonomously and exercise good judgment and discipline and excellent time management.
Accountable for informing risk management staff and management of region updates and maintaining routine field notes.
Expertise in property and casualty insurance products and competitive market conditions.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to relate to persons from varying economic, educational, and cultural backgrounds.
Ability to present a high degree of professionalism with elected officials, members, and other staff and team members.
Proficient in adult learning strategies for development and delivery of training to diverse adult audiences. Good communication skills are required.
Ability to be a team player that is adaptable, flexible, analytical and goal oriented.
Ability to be responsive to internal and external customers.
Proficiency in the use of personal computer, Microsoft Office products and presenting software/tools.
Valid Texas driver’s license and good driving record required; must be able to drive.
Physical Requirements
Requires extensive weekly overnight travel.

May be required to lift or move boxes and designated TAC equipment, up to 50 pounds.
