The Risk Manager-WC will be responsible for the oversight of workers' compensation claims within an assigned territory to ensure that the workers' compensation administrators are handling claims expeditiously, mitigating claim costs and achieving the best possible claim outcomes. The Risk Manager-WC will also assist with championing safety communication and training efforts for TFI.
Review and investigate all first reports of injury within assigned territory. Provide internal status updates on injured employees to branch personnel.
Contact injured employees. Determine current medical status and needs within 24 hours; Provide guidance regarding follow up care and communicate the workers comp process and expectations.
Monitor driver compliance with medical treatment and transitional duty assignments on an ongoing basis as warranted until closure.
Provide all pertinent claim information and documents to claims adjuster and supervisors with our initial assessment before the claim is actually reported to ensure they can start the adjudication process immediately.
Review and approve all action plans recommended by the claims adjuster and or supervisor on claims. Make recommendations to expedite positive claim outcomes as needed through the life of the claim.
Approve all claims administrator recommendations for vendor assignment (legal, medical case management, surveillance, etc.).
Approve all case reserves and claim settlements based on established guidelines.
Conduct and participate in claims committee conferences as needed on complex claims.
Participate in championing safety communications for drivers and staff (newsletters, posters, social media, etc.).
Assist Director of Risk Management with insurance renewal efforts as necessary.
Serve as the primary back up for the Director of Risk Management during absences
7-10 years of multi-jurisdictional workers compensation claims experience. Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, or Northeast claims jurisdictional experience is a plus. Experience with self-insured or large deductible programs is a plus.
Experience in an insurance company, brokerage firm, risk management or safety department a must.
Must be detail-oriented and possess the ability to keep up in a fast paced environment.
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office.
