We are currently seeking an individual for the position of Director of Risk Management for our corporate office located in Nashville, TN.

This is a high visibility position reporting to the Director of Risk Management and Credit with frequent interaction with CEO, CFO and Operating Vice Presidents.
This individual will provide strategic and operational leadership of the corporate Risk Management and Insurance/Bonds function and provide leadership and decision support for driving “a zero injury safety culture without compromise”. Responsibilities include understanding and quantifying RGI’s insurable risks, addressing the specific insurable risks associated with the company’s business activities, identifying appropriate products or programs to mitigate against risk, and managing the internal and external resources that administer and support all facets of the risk management and insurance function. They will also provide leadership, creativity, and decision support for the Company’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) process and framework. Specific responsibilities include:
Must be able to initiate and support the drive for “a zero injury safety culture without compromise” and promote loss prevention and workplace safety opportunities across all levels of the organization.
Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the company’s risk appetite and the insurable risks of all RGI business activities through active participation in the senior leadership and continuous engagement with the company’s business segments and support functions including Audit, Aviation, Finance, HR, Legal, Operations, Real Estate, and Tax.
Advise RGI Executive Leadership regarding the comprehensiveness, efficiency and effectiveness of the current insurance programs in light of changes in the company’s business segments and the external environment, and the viability of alternatives including captive self-insurance, new insurers and capacity in the market, and new forms of insurance products. Ultimately, ensure corporate insurance remains aligned to RGI operating risks and highly efficient relative to market pricing trends.
Serve as the company’s principal source of expertise about the global insurance marketplace through relationships with professional and industry associations, the company’s Insurance Brokerage Firm and Insurers, and legal and financial advisors.
Builds strategic alliances and partnerships within the organization to collaboratively execute business strategies.
Lead all efforts to maintain and evolve the company’s insurance coverage, including preparation of underwriting information, compilation of pre-renewal summary reports, negotiation of policy terms and conditions, and facilitation of coverage binders and premium payments.
Exercise management oversight of the activities of RGI’s third party insurance service providers, claims administrator, claims information technology provider, and external counsel to ensure that services are competitive, cost-efficient and responsive to the company’s legal, compliance, financial and risk management needs.
Support corporate development activities such as mergers, acquisitions and divestitures by providing advisory and insurance procurement services as needed.
Manage department budget/plan and responsible for leading RM department staff of 4 FTE’s including supplier personnel which accounts for multiple key individuals (major insurance brokerage firm, claims administrator, outside counsel, etc.).
Develops and implements qualified self-insurance programs in 5 U.S. States for worker’s related injuries
Oversee day-to-day insurance operations, including explanation and interpretation of coverage and policy terms to internal and external audiences, provision of coverage summaries and certificates to clients, timely submission and processing of claims, and support of insurance-related needs that arise in the business segments, supplier management, and other internal business processes.
Responsible for managing the Company’s claims information technology provider, Riskonnect, including integrity of claims information, data reporting and analytics and support for organization.
Responsible for internal relationship with RGI Legal in managing the litigation/liability claim process and serving as the link between insurers, claim reps, TPA, legal counsel, internal segment contacts, etc.
Evaluate all litigation filed against RGI for insurance coverage potential and report covered claims timely to insurers.
Overall responsibility for claims function and focus on successful resolution and focus efforts on high exposure claims that present significant financial or brand impact. Periodically, Corporate Risk Manager will represent RGI at higher profile claim mediations.
Identify loss trends and implement casualty loss mitigation strategies aimed at reducing future losses associated with colleague and third-party injuries.
Must be a vocal advocate for safety and demonstrate safety leadership in words and actions.
10+ years of Risk Management Department role, Insurance Brokerage, Insurance Company or similar experience with at least 5 of the 10 years supervising multiple risk management and insurance professionals (as a Manager, Director or above).
Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Finance, or equivalent field of study.
Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), or equivalent designation a plus.
Industry experience in the Aggregate mining or Road Construction segments a plus.
Must be willing to travel across 10 states to operations and industry events including National RIMS.
Proficient in Microsoft programs with strong emphasis in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Knowledge of software based systems (Oracle or similar).
Prior experience with a Risk Management Information System (RMIS) is required.
Ability to communicate effectively and build quick and lasting relationships throughout the company.
Ability to manage and develop a strong team of seasoned insurance professionals.
