This role will be the primary point of contact for all insurance related matters in the United States. Responsible for the effective management and maintenance of all US insurance programs while working closely with GSO Treasury and Global Insurance. Acting as the key insurance point of contact and expert within the business, to ensure effective liaison with US insurance markets and working with appointed insurance brokers. This role will also have responsibility for the US Business Continuity program which covers all ADUSA operations, financial compliance for US captive insurance operations and strategy to ensure effective property protection for ADUSA real estate assets. Works collaboratively with senior leadership and business partners to identify and reduce risk organization wide.
Act as the primary point of contact for all insurance related matters in ADUSA. Serve as primary point person for all internal stakeholders regarding ADUSA contractual insurance requirements.
Lead and direct the US commercial insurance structure, design and procurement working with Global Insurance to ensure appropriate alignment and to leverage organizational size. Plan, design, communicate and enhance the overall risk management process for the ADUSA organization along with the development of associated tools, practices and policies to analyze report and manage those risks.
Implement effective and efficient risk financing mechanisms utilizing the Captive Insurance Company. Utilize the captive to introduce "outside the box" solutions to mitigate risks or add benefits (small vendor protection, mergers and acquisitions etc.)
Responsible for the collection of information and data for the purposes of managing and renewing required for underwriting US risk. Ensure accuracy of all underwriting data submitted to actuaries and commercial markets
Engage and collaborate with US business leaders to identify, assess, surface exposures and collaboratively design risk mitigation and retention programs.
Assist with mergers and acquisition due diligence, operational developments, as needed.
Renew all workers comp self-insurance licenses in a timely fashion and work with actuaries to ensure collateral requirements are aligned with loss forecasts.
Engage actuaries in discussing and understanding assumptions made regarding reserve and premium forecasting are aligned to ongoing claims, safety and risk management practices. Maintain regular communication with actuaries to discuss and inform them of any changes to claim management practices which may impact forecasting for the reserve and premium studies.
Work closely with the captive manager, actuary and Vermont counsel regarding accounting, regulatory and financial governance issues to ensure proper governance and compliance.
Engage captive board regarding emerging risks, appropriate recommendations and mechanisms to address same, and all governance, regulatory, tax and accounting practices and processes which may financially impact captive operations and licensing.
Review and approve reinsurance agreements between Ahold Insurance Company, The Mollyanna Company, commercial "fronting" insurers and all relevant commercial insurance markets to ensure alignment and intent of program structure and design.
Forge strong relationships with Vermont regulators. Assume an active role in the Vermont Captive Insurance Association (VCIA), the premiere captive insurance association in the nation.
Accountable for the Business Contingency Program (BCP) for the US organization for critical business areas, functions and applications by working in partnership with all RBS departments, brands and vendors
Accountable for the integration of fire protection standards and physical property protection are in place for all company locations ( stores, offices and DCs).
10+ years of insurance and risk management experience
Knowledge and familiarity with Risk Management tools
Preferably 15 years of insurance/risk management leadership with prior experience with self-insured financial risk
