The Director of Insurance and Risk Management is responsible for the overall management of the company’s insurance programs.
Responsibilities
Responsible for directing the purchase of insurance including but not limited to property and casualty, builder’s risk, and management liability, as well as gathering and organizing the required exposure information for RD and RD affiliate businesses
Allocate premiums for master insurance program to individual properties
Review binders, policies, and endorsements to ensure accuracy of terms and conditions
Oversee the handling of all 3rd party claims, including litigated claims
Manage/advise on 1st party insurance claims to maximize recoveries
Review the insurance provisions of contracts (i.e. tenant leases, loan agreements, construction, vendors, etc.)
Maintain and develop relationships with insurance brokers, insurers, and other service providers
Identify and analyze risk exposures; make risk control recommendations to management
Responsible for the management and issuance of certificates of insurance
Monitor insurance escrow accounts and pursue reimbursement from lenders as needed
Manage surety bond program
Handle workers’ compensation audits for RD affiliate businesses
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Risk & Insurance Department, including developing and maintaining departmental policies and procedures
Main point of contact for insurance and claims related issues for all internal and external stakeholders
Minimum of 10 years of risk management experience in commercial real estate
Strong knowledge of property and casualty insurance and management liability coverages
Working knowledge of construction-related insurance
Claims handling experience (property & casualty)
Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications
Detail oriented, well organized
Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks
Good time management and interpersonal skills
Supervisory experience
Insurance professional designation a plus
