POSITION
The Chief Compliance Officer will be responsible for leading Wellington Management's global private investments compliance program, covering all regulatory matters relating to the firm's private investments business. Wellington is expanding the asset classes, products and geographical footprint of its private investments business. Therefore, a key initial responsibility of the role is to build out the compliance infrastructure to support a larger, more complex and global business.
The Compliance Officer will be a member of the Legal & Enterprise Risk group reporting to Wellington Management's General Counsel. The role will work closely with other compliance professionals and attorneys across the global organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Compliance Officer's primary responsibilities will include the following:
Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of the private investments business compliance program and build out the program to support the firm's current growth pans
Provide regulatory risk management advice and support to Wellington's private funds, including policies & procedures, controls, and policy exceptions
Enhance the firm's information controls and monitoring relating to the intake, retention and dissemination of confidential information of private companies; enhance the scope and integrity of controls monitoring the communication of "private side" information to the firm's "public side" investors; and integrate with the "public side" controls framework
Collaborate with the portfolio management and infrastructure teams to design physical segregation, secure storage, access controls for "private side" information; integrate those measures with the firm's "public side" policies and procedures to identify and prevent the misuse of material non-public information
Assess conflicts and recommending mitigating controls
Review regulatory rule proposals, amendments and regulatory developments and assisting with the evaluation of a rule's impact on business practices
Work with relevant business and infrastructure teams to ensure robust supervisory processes and controls
Lead responses to regulatory inquiries and examinations of our private funds
Work with other members of Legal & Enterprise Risk on regulatory, compliance and operational risk initiatives
Participate in a variety of department or firm-wide project-based initiatives and working groups
Hire, manage and develop team members to support the private investments compliance program
QUALIFICATIONS
15+ years of experience, including a strong preference for experience working in a capacity supporting or working in private equity or private credit; experience across multiple geographies/regulatory regimes a plus
Demonstrated leadership and management skills
