The Risk Specialist, under limited supervision, is responsible for the professional and confidential intake, investigation, and reporting of workers compensation claims. The Risk Specialist must have strong attention to detail particularly when documenting, showcasing a high level of accuracy along with organization skills. It is essential to demonstrate strong organizational and written and verbal communication skills. Critical to success are the abilities to provide excellent customer service and maintain open communication with internal and external customers.
1. Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and follow all safety policies, procedures and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions. 2. Process, investigate, and resolve claims. Research, survey, and provide follow up when necessary. 3. Perform transactional data entry into systems with a high degree of accuracy. Ensure claim information is accurately entered into the claims processing system. Scan, organize, and file documentation. 4. Determine if an injury is OSHA/MSHA– Recordable: research, investigate, and maintain OSHA/MSHA knowledge. 5. Reduce the financial impact of a workers compensation claim: facilitate transitional and return to work programs (ADA/FMLA). 6. Coordinate with Human Resources to provide job modifications, meeting worker limitations. 7. Coordinate with outside resources: Nurse Case Management to provide resources to Michels employees; bill review service. 8. Negotiate up to deductible limits; involve management prior to settlement. 9. Mentor and train Risk team members and others as requested. 10. Maintain open communication with divisional and departmental leads to ensure coordination of Risk department needs. Educate on claim status and relevant terminology. 11. Prepare for and attend risk review meetings.
• High School Diploma or GED, 5+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite • Must possess a valid driver license for the type(s) of vehicles which may be driven and an acceptable driving record as determined by Michels Review Team
