Position Summary: This role is to administer insurance claims for workers compensation, property and casualty losses for the Florida Conference of The United Methodist Church, a large, self-insured non-profit organization.
This is a hybrid role in Lakeland, FL.
Claims Specialists in the Lakeland metro area with multi-line experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Analyzing liability and damages issues in connection with claims made against our insureds and maintaining appropriate documentation
Analyzing insurance coverage issues and drafting coverage position letters
Monitoring outside counsel in the defense of our insureds to effectively resolve claims
Evaluating full diary of pending matters in connection with the posting and maintaining of accurate reserves
Establish timely reserves and perform ongoing review throughout claims cycle within authority limit
Maintaining and developing relationships with insureds, brokers and outside counsel to include oversight of and direction for the Conference’s Third-Party Administrators
Ensure customer service by proactively communicating information; responding to inquires; following Ministry Protection protocols
Monitor litigation activities of assigned counsel and established litigation plan; coordinating defense lawyer activities; continuously reviewing the potential for settlement with claimant; reviewing litigation expenses and authorizing payments
Collaborating with and providing support and information to underwriters in connection with their evaluation of risk within the risk management program
Other Functions:
Maintains a “service” relationship with other departments, vendors, associates and customers
Public speaking, including presentations at training and special events
Other duties as assigned

Working Environment:
Frequent contact with vendors, community members, board members and Conference, Camp and District staff onsite and in various locations
Spends 75% or more time sitting; remainder of time includes being stationary in one place; occasional lifting (up to 20 lbs) and climbing (stairs) to ensure guest and facility safety
Some travel will be required, possibly overnight

Minimum Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent industry experience required
Experience with self-insured insurance programs
Strong negotiation and analytical skills with 3 to 5 years’experience with self-insured, multi-line insurance programs handling workers compensation and general liability claims for an insurer or large employer
Knowledge of contract language, including regulatory and policy differences, legal liability, general insurance policy coverage and State Tort law
Working knowledge of claims investigation techniques, medical and legal aspects of claims
Effective communication skills to explain the facts and logic used to arrive at decisions in a way that the customer understands
Written skills to compose clear, succinct descriptions when posting to files and drafting correspondence
Capacity to multi-task in a structured work environment
Demonstrated ability to work on a team, effectively interact with others, meet deadlines and successfully perform in a changing work environment
An appreciation of the nature and mission of the Church is essential
Must be able to pass successfully a criminal background check as well as a Motor Vehicle Records check
Preferences:
Multi-line claim experience highly preferred
