About the Position: The City of Grand Junction is seeking a Risk and Safety Manager to perform a broad range of management level duties associated with the City’s Risk and Safety division. This entails setting strategic direction and coordinating activities associated with safety and accident prevention programs, loss control, property/liability claims, administration of the City’s insurance fund, risk financing, and policy development support to the Human Resources Director.

What You'll Do:
Set strategy, manage and participate in the development and implementation of safety and risk management project goals, outcomes, standards and regulations in accordance with federal, state, and City laws, regulations and policies and procedures.
Coordinate and administer the services and activities of safety, loss control, property/liability claims and risk financing.
Administer the City’s insurance fund.
Evaluate trends and recommend changes in retention levels and future funding levels; allocate costs to departments.
Respond to claimants, determining the nature of claims and potential damage.
Participate in the development and administration of the annual budget including participation in the forecasting of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies.
Serve as a member of the Human Resources Leadership team.
Supervise, oversee and support a team of four professional staff members.

What We are Looking for:
Four years of responsible experience in risk management, industrial safety, human resource program management or a related field including responsibility for managing insurance funds as well as one year of supervisory experience.
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in industrial safety, risk management, business administration, public administration, or a related field.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado Driver's License.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an Associate in Risk Management (ARM) certification.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, the City of Grand Junction Leadership Track certification within two years of appointment.
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be submitted.
